Session Descriptions:

Winning Presence for Business Development: Making the Most of Every Opportunity
Dean Hyers (SagePresence)
We all experience them – those “in the spotlight” moments where success or failure seems to be riding entirely on what we say and do right now. We might be networking to meet prospects, leading business development conversations to learn about future opportunities, or presenting inside of new business interviews. Or, we might be looking to convince our team to step up their business development game. We feel the pressure of these moments, and don’t know how to consistently handle them with confidence and effectiveness.
In this game-changing Q&A session, Dean Hyers and Pete Machalek of SagePresence address this challenge from their unique vantage as filmmakers who specialize in helping professionals deliver optimal performance in high-pressure scenarios.
Come prepared to talk about the business development situations you deal with the most and have the most questions about. Dean and Pete will take your questions and respond to them in the moment, providing nuggets of value that you can immediately implement and benefit from.
You will walk away from this session with a new understanding of how you can consistently pilot the moments that historically have challenged you the most, to produce the results you are looking to generate with anyone you are speaking to.
Four Easy Steps to Conflict Resolution
Liz Weatherhead
In this power-packed workshop, you will leave with a simple four-part tool in your back pocket to resolve those difficult conversations with clients, team members and supervisors. There are four basic questions that must be answered for situations to be concluded to the satisfaction of all parties and to move the issue forward. This tool is versatile enough for a two-minute conversation or a twenty-minute dispute. Leave this workshop ready to tackle your next dialog.

Construct*ium® Event Descriptions

Students will get the chance to compete in five (5) events:
Job Interview contest
This mock interview provides students with an opportunity to experience a real job interview and receive valuable feedback and coaching. It involves two parts: an interview and a resume including a cover letter, which the students will be required to provide.
Toastmaster public speaking competition
Using the Toastmaster format, teams of students from the same school would participate in a Toastmaster Table Topic session, with a speech between one to two minutes. All contestants receive the same topic, which will be general in nature. The presentation should be reasonable in length and lead to a conclusion. It will not require a detailed knowledge.
The Pursuit competition
The Pursuit (formerly called the Capstone) challenges students to create and present a complete proposal to win the contract for a real project. Groups of 5 or 6 students will be required to submit qualifications, cost, schedule and project work plans for the project and present to a jury of professionals, who will judge and award the Pursuit Prize.
Pecha Kucha presentation
Pecha Kucha is a presentation style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total). The images advance automatically and a presenter talks along with the images. For our contest, the topics need to pertain to the built environment, be well organized and well-rehearsed with a smooth delivery that holds the audiences’ attention and covers the topic in-depth with details and examples using excellent subject knowledge.
Negotiation Skills competition
The competition will provide students an opportunity to improve their skills on negotiating. This competition provides a real life experience to all the participants!! The competition simulates claim negotiations in which students, acting as a Project Manager, negotiate a series of disputed issues common within the industry. The simulation consists with a common set of facts known to all participants and confidential information known only to the participants representing a particular side.
