First District Association

FDA Cheese Cooler

Litchfield, MN

Wells Concrete’s reputation in dairy and food processing has provided an excellent foundation for the plant evolution at First District Association (FDA) in Litchfield, MN. Through ongoing success in providing a quality product to this client’s growing needs Wells Concrete continues to prove the company maintains an edge in this highly specialized market.

Since Wells Concrete’s first opportunity to work with FDA in 2009 constructing an evaporator tower, there have been back-to-back opportunities as FDA’s growth continues. As the company grows, the increase in production drives the need for facilities to produce the cheese, dairy, and dairy powder products, which in turn drives warehousing and office space needs. With each of these facility needs Wells Concrete has been called upon for their expertise in freezer/cooler detailing, dryer towers, warehousing space and utility buildings.

The dairy and food processing market continue to grow in the upper Midwest; Wells Concrete is committed to increasing its expertise in this specialty market as the customized building needs of this market intensify.

Wells Concrete provided the precast concrete for a dryer tower, processing area, and cooler, along with several smaller areas: a silo alcove and utility room. The exterior is an exposed aggregate rake finish with smooth bands. For the interior we used a mix 347-C water wash USDA finish. The freezer/cooler construction used 10 mil poly with Trocal at the top, with foaming and wrapping joints.
