Wells Concrete has the capacity to produce double tees for building applications as well as parking applications. Named for its shape, double tees are an excellent choice in roof applications where a long, clear span is required such as parking decks, swimming pools, gymnasiums, industrial building walls, and heavy loadings for floors or roofs. Double tees are plant-fabricated, which provides excellent quality control and speeds up the construction process. They are made either:
- Pre-topped using a flange thickness of 5”, which creates the wearing surface in parking structures; or
- Field- topped with a 2” flange, on which a cast-in-place concrete composite topping of 2” to 4” is added in the field. For roof construction, there is typically no need to add topping on the 2” flange
Advantages of Structural Double Tees
- Low initial project costs and little maintenance throughout the life of the product
- Fabrication and erection happen much faster, speeding up the construction process compared to cast-in-place concrete structures
- Extremely durable, sound resistance and can withstand wind, road salt, earthquakes and even fire
- Long span and high load capacity
